The Innovation and Technology Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia opened the Gurjaani Technopark in October 2020. The project started with the financial support of the World Bank. The Technopark comprises a universal laboratory for industrial innovation (Fablab), and is fully equipped with the most up to date equipment; a high-performance 3D printer, laser cutter, programmable machine, CNC machine, card printing router and a 3D scanner, amongst other things. The space is staffed by highly qualified specialists who are able to assist people interested in this field by modelling and prototyping.
Gurjaani Technopark comprises a physical space that is able to bring together technological, educational and professional resources, and acts as a platform to develop businesses, all based on innovation and technology. The Technopark brings together people of different ages and sectors and enables them to use the space to create new, innovative technological products that will be popular both locally and internationally.
Gurjaani Technopark’s mission is to assist the local population, people from the private sector as well as the municipality, all of whom will have the opportunity to use sought after technologies to further develop their productivity and also gain more knowledge in fields of innovation and technology, as well as in business in general. It’s imperative to engage with young people from the community, and to help increase their knowledge and understanding of how to set up a startup and what steps they need to do to both grow a business and for it to succeed. The Technopark helps build a knowledge-based economy in Georgia, to create a workforce which is both highly paid and highly skilled, to develop an inclusive economy and to further promote investments in the country.
