ArtEast-ArtWest

The Georgia's Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA) of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has launched a new educational initiative, ArtEast-ArtWest. The project aims to discover and nurture artistic talent across Georgia by integrating youth into the creative process-combining Georgian mythology, regional cultural heritage, digital art, and animation.

As part of the initiative, creative young minds from across the country will be selected to work in four-member teams. Together, they will produce animated short films based on local myths, legends, historical events, and historical figures.

The final output of the project will feature 13 animated short episodes, brought together into a unified national animation anthology representing Georgia’s regional folklore and heritage.

Who Can Participate?

The project is open to individuals aged 14 and above, including school students, university students, young adults, and anyone passionate about creative media. No prior professional experience in animation is required.

Key Roles

The project is seeking participants for four core roles within each team:

• Story / Script: For those who love writing, developing narratives, and exploring mythology, legends, history, and folklore. Candidates should enjoy character development, structuring plots, creative writing, and drama.
• Visual / Character Design: For individuals interested in drawing, illustration, graphic design, or digital art. Candidates will bring characters, environments, and regional cultural symbols to life, establishing the visual style and aesthetic of the animation.
• Sound / Music: For music enthusiasts, instrumentalists, beatmakers, and sound designers. Candidates will create background scores, sound effects, and voiceovers using both traditional and modern audio tools to build narrative emotion.
• Animation / Motion: For those passionate about bringing artwork to life through 2D animation, motion graphics, stop-motion, or AI-assisted digital tools. Candidates should enjoy video editing, timing, and technical execution.

Regional Coverage

The initiative spans 13 regions and territorial units of Georgia:

Tbilisi, Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti, Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo, Svaneti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, and Abkhazia.

Program Details

Selected participants will complete a 36-hour hybrid training course covering:

• Animation fundamentals & Storytelling
• Scriptwriting & Storyboarding
• Character design & Visual style development
• Sound design & Music composition
• Technical video and animation production
• Responsible use of digital and AI tools
• Project presentation and pitching

The completed animations will be premiered at an official Demo Day and archived in a national digital catalog.
